God forbade...must reading!

Study

There is no excuse for those who could be scholars and are not.

Study. Study in earnest. If you are to be salt and light, you need knowledge, capability.

Or do you imagine that an idle and lazy life will entitle you to receive infused knowledge?

Work! When you are engrossed in professional work, the life of your soul will improve, and you’ll become more of a man for you’ll get rid of that “carping spirit” that consumes you.

Culture, culture! Good! Don’t let anyone get ahead of us in striving for it and possessing it.

But remember that culture is a means, not an end.

Your very inexperience leads you to presumption, vanity and to all that you imagine gives you an air of importance.

Correct yourself, please! Foolish and all, you may come to occupy a post of responsibility (its happened more than once), and if you’re not convinced of your lack of ability, you will refuse to listen to those who have the gift of counsel, and its frighteneing to think of the harm your mismanagement will do.

I don’t understand how you can call yourself a Christian and lead such an idle, useless life. Have you forgotten Christ’s life of toil?

Add a supernatural motive to your ordinary professional work, and you will have sanctified it.
