God forbade...must reading!

Fortune

Who asks your high favor with tongue in cheek? In such a state of doubt and danger you position the too-exalted. Authority never found calm peace or certain rights. Care on care weighs them down as fresh storms vex their souls. Great kingdoms sink under their own weight. Fortune gives way beneath her own burdens. Sails swell with favoring breezes as fear grips strong. The tower raises its head to the clouds. It is beaten by rain.

Whatever Fortune has raised high, it has brought low. A modest estate has longer life. Happy is he with the common lot, with safe breezes hugs the shore, afraid to trust the wide sea, keeps an unambitous oar close to land.
