Cronyism
A leaning to long-standing friends, appointed to positions regardless of qualification. The economic and social costs are paid by society; reduced business opportunities for the majority, reduced competition, inflation of prices, decreased economic performance, inefficient investment cycles, reduced motivation and morale. A practical cost, poor performance. Cronyism self-perpetuates, begets cronyism. It is countered by an enforced legal code.
