Character assassination

Character assassination is an attempt to tarnish a reputation. It may involve exaggeration or a manipulation of facts to present an untrue picture of someone. It can be a form of defamation and can be part of an ad hominem argument, ripping.

The results of character assassination attempts are rejection from family, friends or work environment. Its hard to reverse or rectify, similar to the assassination of a human life. Some can be maimed for life while other infamous are ruined long after they're gone.

Character assassination may involve doublespeak, spreading rumors, innuendo and deliberate misinformation about the other's morals, integrity or reputation. It might involve spinning, information technically true, but misleading or out of context.

For example it may be said Joe did not pay any income tax, one year, without saying he did not owe anything because he had no income, that year.
