God forbade...must reading!

Pascal, Blaise

                                                                       Pensees

Sec. 2, 172

We're not satisfied with the present. The future is too slow in coming, as to make it happen, or recall the past, to stop its too rapid flight. We wander in times that are not ours and we don't think of our own. We, idly, dream of long-gone times and overlook what is before our eyes.

The present is, somewhat, painful for us. Because it troubles us, we keep it out of sight. If it means something to us, we don't want it to end. For the future's sake, we try to arrange things, not in our power.

The present is never our end. the past and present are our means, the future, alone, is our end. We hope to live, and are always prepared to be happy, but, its inevitable, we can never be.
