Pascal, Blaise
Pensees
Sec. 4, 277
The heart has its reasons, the mind does not know. We feel it in a thousand things. The heart, naturally loves universal being and, naturally, loves itself. As it gives itself to them, it hardens itself against the one or the other, at its will. You have kept one and rejected the other. Is it by reason you love yourself?
