Passive/ Aggressive
Passive/Aggressive behavior is a passive personality trait that can be obstructionist in resistance to follow through among others and at work. It's marked by negative attitudes and passive, and a denied resistance at work and in other social circles.
Passive/aggressive can be described as a learned helplessness, procrastination, stubbornness, resentment, silently ill-humored or a deliberate failure to complete given tasks, when given the responsibility to do so.
It is a pervasive pattern of negative attitudes and passive resistance to demands for adequate performance. It usually begins in early adulthood, indicted by four of the following;
passively resists fulfilling routine social and work tasks
complains of being misunderstood and unappreciated
is cross and argumentative
unreasonbly critical and scourns authority
shows envy and resentment to others, apparently, more fortunate
voices exxagerated and persistent complaints of personal misfortune
alternates between hostile disregard and regret
Passive aggression can come from drug or alcoholic addicted parents or in an environment it was not safe to express frustration or anger. Families, where the honest expression of feelings is forbidden, children, then, learn to repress and deny their feelings, other channels are found to express frustration.
Children who 'sugarcoat' hostility might have a hard time outgrowing it. Not having learned better coping strategies, behind a seductive veneer, harbor unforgiving intent.
Martin Kantor notes three indicators to passive aggressive anger, conflicts about dependency, control and competition.
