Narcissism
In studies of narcissists, findings include narcissists think they are 'hot stuff' . They see themselves more intelligent, physically attractive, likeable and funny. They see the negative side in themselves, being power oriented, impulsive, arrogant and exxagerate. They are aware of their narcissism and their reputation. How so?
Perhaps, others fail to see just how 'bichin' they really are. Others are just too dim to recognize their brilliance. They may think others are jealous. Bragging may be their way of demanding deserved recognition, trying to bridge the gap between their self-perception and their meta-perceptions.
And possible difference in the meaning of narcissism, if when you say they are arrogant it means deservedly confident. Not concerned of the negative impact as long as it doesn't get in the way of their goals.
Narcissists made favorable impressions, but just ask those who know them. They are not likely to change, unless for more power or better status.
