Heartbreak Syndrome
Heartbreak, a broken heart is a condition brought on by stressful situations, the death of a loved one or a breakup. The event leaves a rush of stress hormones that prompts a malfunction from a temporary enlargement of the heart.

After adjustments, women were seven times more likely to suffer the syndrome.
As women became older, the risk for the syndrome increased.
There is a higher likelihood among women under 55, diminishing to three times more likely, when older.
Researchers could not definitively say why a woman’s heart is much more susceptible to emotional stress. One theory is a difference in hormone balance between sexes. Another is men handle stress better by way of more adrenaline receptors on their heart cells.
