Dissatisfaction
There is only one way to find personal satisfaction and happiness, we have to let go of our desire for life to always be how we want it to be.
To look deeply at dissatisfaction, we have to turn our attention inward and watch what goes on in our minds.
When she does this the author often finds a low-grade unease, or anxiety, and even dread. She finds it stems from the world and her life not conforming to how she thinks they should be.
If we try to control all of life's circumstances, we will be rife with dissatisfaction. This is because we can't make pleasant experiences last, and we can't prevent unpleasant experiences from coming up.
Life simply refuses to always be the way we want it to be or the way we think it should be.
We can ease dissatisfaction by changing how we respond to pleasant and unpleasant experiences.
Opening to life ‘as it is’ doesn't mean we shouldn't take action to change things personally and globally. It simply means that our starting point is life as it is.
The Buddha said we should keep our cool in the face of unpleasant experiences.
Personal satisfaction and happiness are not dependent on what experiences we have but on how we respond to them.
The saying warrants thought,
It takes courage to accept life as it is.
